Our modern era is a time of great promise, opportunity, and challenge in the biomedical, agricultural, social, and environmental sciences. The conduct and application of science and its place in the fabric of American society have become everyday concerns, and science plays an important role in ensuring U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace.
We want to know how safe are the foods we eat and the medications we take. We need to understand what determines misconduct in science. We debate whether the contributions of science to the health and welfare of the citizenry justify its cost. We question whether science education is keeping up with changing times.
Research directors and administrators, policymakers, health care professionals, and educators
need expert information, analyses, and consultation regarding these and many other questions.
The LSRO has carefully built an international reputation for objectivity and confidentiality, and it is widely regarded as an authoritative source of sound scientific information, independent of special interest groups and politics.
