Fabiana De Moura, Ph.D. Dr.   De Moura is a Staff Scientist at the Life Sciences Research Organization.   She received her Ph.D.   in Nutrition from the University of Maryland,  College Park,  and completed her postodoctoral training at the Nutrition Department at the University of California,  Davis.   She holds the M.S.   degree in Food Science from the State University of Campinas and a B.S.   degree in Food Engineering from the Federal University of ViÇosa,  both institutions in Brazil.

During her doctoral and postdoctoral training,  Dr.   De Moura's research area focused on the elucidation of human metabolism of vitamins and carotenoids.   In collaboration with researchers at the National Eye Institute,  she investigated the possible beneficial effects of lutein in the prevention of age-related macular degeneration.

Dr.   De Moura is the primary author of a book chapter and the co-author of eight peer-reviewed journal articles.   She is a member of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences and the International Carotenoid Society.
