Speakers were invited to present information to the DTR Committee concerning the differentiation of categories of smokeless tobacco products. | |

Dr. David Johnson, of Swedish Match N. America, Inc., presented a comparison of Swedish and American smokeless tobacco products. He discussed manufacturing processes, tobacco blends, and the levels of various chemical constituents in categories of tobacco products. |

Mr. James Dillard, of U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co, discussed tobacco product harm reduction through public communication and other mechanisms such as age-restricted facilities, age-verified internet sites, and age-verified direct mail. |

Dr. Christopher Proctor and Dr. Delcio Sandi, both of British American Tobacco, presented smokeless tobacco consumer and product data. Dr. Proctor summarized the findings from a consumer survey conducted in Sweden and a risk perception survey in South Africa. Dr. Sandi provided an overview of the chemical content of various smokeless tobacco products and the influence of the storage condition on TSNAs formation over time in Swedish snus. |

Dr. Michael Fisher, of Philip Morris USA, discussed the company's snus smokeless tobacco products in terms of product design and test marketing. Dr. Fisher also presented an overview of toxicological assessments and exposure studies for snus products. |
