      LSRO's Reduced Risk Review Core Committee met for the fifth time at the FASEB building, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD, on October 18-20, 2005. The Core Committee members present were Alwynelle Ahl, Ph.D., D.V.M., Elizabeth L. Anderson, Ph.D., Nancy L. Buc, Esq., Carroll E. Cross, M.D., Louis D. Homer, M.D., Ph.D., Joseph V. Rodricks, Ph.D., Emanuel Rubin, M.D., Richard C. Schwing, Ph.D., and Richard Windsor, M.S., Ph.D., M.P.H. The LSRO staff members present were Catherine St. Hilaire, Ph.D., Mike Falk, Ph.D., Daniel Byrd, Ph.D., D.A.B.T., Amy Brownawell, Ph.D., Kara Lewis, Ph.D., Keith Lenghaus, Ph.D., Shelia McGregor, and Carmen Mones, B.A. Representatives from two SSRC's were also in attendance: Robert Orth, Ph.D., Karl Fagerstrom, Ph.D., and Loren Koller, D.V.M., Ph.D.

The first full day of the meeting was held in Executive Session and focused on Core Committee review of the progress made by the State-of-the-Science Review Committees (SSRCs).

The second day of the meeting was comprised of an Information Gathering Session from 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Scott Appleton, Chuck Gaworski, George Patskan and Barb Zedler of Philip Morris USA provided a series of presentations related to studies of the AccordŽ electronically-heated cigarette. Slides from these presentations are found on the Presentations page. Approximately seventeen members of the public attended the Information Gathering Session. A listing of attendees and their affiliations can be viewed on the Attendees page. The remainder of the meeting on day two was held in Executive Session.

The final meeting day began with a brief Information Gathering Session from 8-9 a.m. During this time, Mr. Joseph Pandolfino of XXII Century Limited provided information on genetically-modified tobacco that featured higher nicotine to tar ratios compared to conventional tobacco. The next meeting of the Core Committee is scheduled for January 19-20, 2006 in Miami Beach, FL. The entire two-day meeting will be held in Executive Session.
